What are your thoughts on a large outdoor sculpture show on the beach? Whether you’re a fan of art or not, there’s no denying how motivating this show will be for its visitors.

Have you witnessed Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition? SWELL Sculpture Festival will return from September 8 to September 17, 2023.

The event, now in its 21st year, continues to call Queensland’s most beautiful and cleanest beach home. Currumbin Beach will transform into a sculpture and inspiration sanctuary. Seventy magnificent and fascinating sculptures produced by local, national, and worldwide artists are on show for ten days. Isn’t that thrilling?

SWELL Beginnings

SWELL arose from a collaborative creative moment between two minds. In 2002, Natasha Edwards and Kylie Mitchell-Smith initially discussed creating a new art experience for everyone. It was about creating art in a friendly environment, and it grew into the SWELL Sculpture Festival, a free outdoor sculpture show on Currumbin’s beautiful beaches. Six thousand people attended the first SWELL Sculpture Festival, which featured 23 sculptures, on a lovely September weekend in 2003.

The SWELL Sculpture Festival established itself on the Queensland art scene in 2004 with an exhibition of works by Queensland artists such as Christopher Trotter and foreign artists such as Andy Scott (Scotland) and Nick Horrigan (UK). The event expanded to ten days in 2005, featuring the famous SWELL Smalls Gallery.

SWELL has captured the hearts and minds of a vast and diversified audience since 2003. SWELL makes arts, culture, and creativity available to people of all backgrounds, inviting them to immerse themselves.

If you want to go to the SWELL Sculpture Festival, plan your holiday and reserve a Currumbin Beach accommodation as soon as possible because the festival draws hundreds of sightseers.
